What is a Shadowbox?

A shadowbox, in
its simplest form, is a deep frame, usually more than 1" deep, than can
contain 1 or more art pieces. It is a way to display anything from paper
art to three dimensional objects or any combination of these. Projects
using depth as a design element generally require a deeper frame.
When designing a
shadowbox, you need to decide what to include, if anything, with the
main art piece. Sometimes more items, help to tell the story of the art
piece better. Other times, a simple elegant design is all that is required to
distinguish the art. Designing a shadowbox takes a little time and
thought - these projects usually have a lot of sentiment built in and
taking your time will make them even more special.
